Young Womens: New Beginnings

In February we celebrated New Beginnings, where we welcomed the girls that will be turning 12 this year and introduced them to the Young Women's program. We have 3 girls coming in, and 1 girl that just turned 12 last year but is investigating the church, so we included her as well! (Unfortunately she couldn't make it!) Our theme for the night was "Diamonds in the Rough." Each girl got a personal progress book, a journal, the theme, True to the Faith, For Strength of Youth (full size and pocket size), The Family: A Proclamation to the World,  a necklace, and a book for their parents. To fit with the theme I blinged up some of their books and added their initial to make it a little more personal! We sort of combined Young Women in Excellence too, because we didn't have that program last year! So we recognized one of the girls who earned her medallion. It was such a great night. I was so proud of the girls and the growth I've seen in them. They were so welcoming to the new girls too! I'm the 2nd counselor in Young Women so I'm over the beehives and it was really fun to see who will be joining our class this year. The Young Women's President gave a great little talk explaining the values. Our Bishop spoke about where we go to look for diamonds (not around the world, but in our own homes), the Stake Young Women's president talked a little bit about our theme for this year (Moroni 10:32) and why Personal Progress is so important, and I talked about how we are all diamonds in the rough and our journey to become more Christ-like. The night ended with chocolate layered truffles and lots of visiting :) Lisa made some vinyl for us to put on tiles that night but it didn't come in time! It worked out though because we ran out of time that night, so we made the vinyl tiles at another activity :)
