Cannon Beach

Somehow this blog post never got posted, so here it is a little late!

Every year my Mom and sisters go to Time Out For Women together. We make a little girls' weekend out of it. This year the event wasn't at a good time for us. And, as much as we love the event, we travel a long way to all be together just to sit next to each other and listen to speakers all day. While we love being so spiritually edified, we don't have too much time just to be sisters (and a mom). So this year we planned out own little getaway! We got a beach house in Cannon Beach and Mom brought tons of pictures to label and organize and slides to scan (to work on our family history and documenting what we have). Last minute Jenny couldn't make it, and we definitely missed her there, but we still made the most of the weekend. This was such a great time. While I desperately missed Dylan (I know, I'm pathetic, we still can't be apart!) I thoroughly enjoyed myself. And, per usual, the rest of the blog post will be in pictures :)

Kim and I drove together and got there just a little bit before Mom, Lisa, and Natalie. We stopped at the first place we
could get to the beach and waited for them.

All together at last! Soaking in the view.

This was the coldest ocean Hendrix has ever been in. He still likes it though!

Hanging out in the back yard of the beach house

I hardly held Hex the whole weekend. Everyone else wanted him!
He slept a lot this weekend. Either girls' weekend was super boring
or he was going through a growth spurt!
There were so many cute shops in Cannon Beach. Definitely my
favorite beach town I've been in so far. We did lots of shopping and window
shopping between our family history work!

Hendrix always had so much to say to Aunt Natalie

Sunset the first night! This is Haystack Rock on the right. The tide was
low during the sunset so we went out to look at the tide pools and watch the sky
change colors.

Snuggling up with Grandma!

Always such a happy boy!

Mom was looking at pictures and saying who was in them, what year it was, what was going on.
If any of us had a particular memory about an event we would add that as well.
Kimberly was typing everything up. Lisa was labeling the pictures and making sure they all stayed
in order. Then, Natalie is going to scan all the pictures so we have digital copies.
This was so much fun. It was so great to reminisce about our childhoods!

Keith and William. We are sure missing these missionary boys but so proud of
their willingness to serve!

The three musketeers! William, Keith, and Scott

Natalie and I were scanning the slides so we had digital copies of those as well. I'm so glad I had this
job, it was so awesome to look through these pictures. There were a lot of my Mom as a kid, and
a lot of my parents from the wedding up until the twins were born. Many pictures I've never seen before!
This is an image of my Mom as a baby. I can see a little of her in Hendrix!

When we got to this one Natalie and I just busted up laughing. I was laughing so hard I was
almost crying. I absolutely love this wedding picture of my parents.

I saw this little octopus at a restaurant we ate at. I decided not to get it though because
I had spent so much money just on gas to get to Cannon Beach that I didn't really feel
like I had spending money. As we were leaving the restaurant Lisa bought it without me knowing
and snuck it into the diaper bag. I didn't find it until later than evening and for a split second they
made me believe I accidentally walked out of the restaurant with it! Hendrix absolutely loves this
octopus and it is still his favorite toy. The arms are perfect for grabbing! We named him Cannon :)

Sunset, day two!

The pool around this rock was so deep! The slope to the rock was really steep too, but we couldn't figure out
how deep it was! Lisa decided to walk out to the rock and didn't even get halfway before her pants were getting wet!

Olive snail

Playing with Cannon first thing in the morning!

Beach Bum!

This is a caterpillar. Can you see the trail it was making in the sand? It was crawling AWAY from the
grass and and sand dunes, towards the ocean. He was about to be extremely hot with nowhere to hide from the sun
and nothing to eat!

Haystack rock during the day. We went out during low tide our last day so we could see the tide pools better.

It was time to part ways! We had made 3 different pizzas for dinner the night before but were all too full from lunch
still to each much the night before,  so we just packed it up and ate cold (and delicious) pizza on the beach for lunch
before we hit the road.
In between those rocks you can just barely see the Tillamook Lighthouse, nicknamed Terrible Tilly, because of
how dangerous it was to get out to it and maintain it. It's now closed, but there is a lot of interesting history there!
I had such a great weekend. I'm so grateful that I have such a wonderful relationship with my Mom and sisters and that we take the time to get together. I really treasure these little getaways. I feel so blessed to be apart of such an awesome family and am so grateful that we are an eternal family!
