This post is way overdue but here it is! We welcomed Hendrix into the world on April 7, 2014 (his due date!) My parents, Dylan's parents, and Dylan were all there for the labor. Tom and Glenda left about 20 minutes before Hendrix was born (it was tax season and Glenda had to be at the office early that morning!) But they turned around and came back so they got to see him soon after! It was really special to have all of the grandparents there :)

I started having contractions Saturday morning and that night my parents decided it was time for them to come! They drove through the night and got here early Sunday morning. We watched conference together and by the afternoon session my contractions were getting to strong to pay attention to the speakers. I wanted to labor at home for as long as I could so my Mom coached me through the contractions while Dad timed them and Dylan held my hand. Around 7pm we headed up to the hospital. My water broke around 9pm and at 3 am I had to push! I had back labor the entire time and that was not fun at all. Mom and Dylan's Mom took turns applying heat to my back to help ease the pain. Labor was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life and I was totally miserable but once the baby was born all of that immediately went away. I know it sounds cliche but it was such a wonderful moment. They put him right on my chest and immediately I was so overwhelmed by my love for this boy and the struggle I had just gone through was completely worth it.

As readers of this blog will know I am terrible with words, so here are a trillion (almost literally) pictures that can express better than I can our experience the last month :) (Carly was awesome. She came to take pictures in the hospital and then again the next day when we came home! The good looking pictures are from her, the rest from phones!)

Excited he is coming soon!

This labor ball was the best thing. Also this lime popsicle was divine.
This is around midnight I think!
He is finally here! They put him right on my chest and cleaned him
up there. I held him for about an hour and a half before we even
weighed him or anything. It was perfect.
Dylan's first time holding Hendrix. He said "I wish I could see him!"
as he was wiping tears from his eyes.
8lbs 7.4oz

Getting weighed, measured, and poked. This was the
first time he cried.
Just chilling.
Grandpa Harston's turn
Nana's turn

His Aunt Natalie use to suck on her middle two fingers.
This lasted a few days.
Grandpa Harston burping Hendrix. Grandpa is a pro at this.

Grandma and Grandpa Harston

Grandma giving Hendrix his first bath

Dad styling his hair. We realized after his bath he had a lot more hair than we thought!

Meeting Aunt Carly

Getting ready to go home! We went home as soon as we
could. We were anxious to be back in our own space!
Papa and the boy.
Meeting Atticus for the first time. Atticus thinks we brought him home a treat!

He quickly figured it out though! He is so sweet with Hendrix and very
protective of him.

Aunt Nat thinks he looks like Mr. Smee here ;)
Our first night at home. We put him in these pj's and just about died.
We took a dozen pictures. He is almost too big for these now!
It wasn't long before he was giving us smiles.
He is such a smily boy!
more finger sucking

so incredibly precious

Hand-me-down swing. This was Steve and Jenny's and was all pink!
Jenny made a new cover for it! Tycen sent a plane to our house and we put it on
the mobile. Hendrix loves it!

He has the most adorable grumpy face.

Dad loves squishing his cheeks! Which give Mom's a break :)

More cuddles

Hendrix inherited his Dad's long fingers and his Mom's huge feet...

Hendrix was sleeping and Dylan got up to change the laundry over.
Atticus got up from where he was and stood in front of Hendrix and
looked at Dylan like "Don't worry Dad, I got this." He loves to be
wherever Hendrix is!

bath time!
Definitely his father's son

So tiny in his crib!

Dylan loves to play for Hendrix.

This is a picture of Dylan as a baby. The older Hendrix gets
the more he looks like his dad!

Napping together. (I'm pretty sure Dylan took more naps the
first couple weeks than I did. Curse my internal clock for
not letting me sleep during the day!)

Meeting Aunt Natalie!

Natalie loves it when he sleeps like this. Her words:
"Oohh. I'm dead!"

More nap time!

He looks so thug

This is from today! He is so alert now and starting to discover his voice.
He eats a TON and loves to look out the window.

Hendrix has already grown so much in the (almost) 4 weeks he has been here. I am amazed by how fast he changes. We look forward to seeing more of his personality show and love watching him grow! I'll try to do a better job of keeping the blog updated, so stay tuned!

  1. Well, now. If the three of you don't equal perfection, I figure it doesn't exist! I'm one proud and happy Papa. Heather is a hero! Dylan is lucky he married up in such a big way (and, truth be told, we saw a deepness and stoutness of heart while he comforted Heather during her labor, that even now I get misty!), and Hendrix is wonderful. Love, love, love it!

  2. What a perfect little guy. They do grow so very fast. Now, is there a reddish cast to his hair or is it the light? Such wonderful pictures of a perfect family. Love to you all!
