To the Emergency Room!

Yes, technically my last name still is Harston. We are working on changing that
I've been having some lower abdominal pain for a while now. At first we thought I might be pregnant, but thankfully that wasn't the case [thankful because we aren't quite ready yet, but yes, one day we will have children]. It continued to get worse and worse so I called a consulting nurse at my parent's doctors office and she said my symptoms sounded like appendicitis and that I should get to a hospital tonight [last night]. So we headed over to the ER since by now it was past 7 and everything else was closed and we hardly had to wait at all. We got right in. In fact the Doctor even walked in on me changing into my gown haha. He was just ready to help us! They stuck an IV in my arm and gave me some pain killers so I could comfortably lay in bed [I don't remember what it was called, some hyped up morphine though]. Since I haven't been on heavy pain killers [except when they knocked me out to pull my wisdom teeth] they also put me on oxygen so I would remember to breath. They took blood samples and urine samples, pushed on my belly and listened to my back. Next they wheeled me to get a CT scan where I was injected with a tracking dye that made me feel like I was wetting the bed. I wasn't. Then back to my room to wait for results. Luckily it wasn't my appendix. There was an abnormally large cyst on one of my ovaries though. They scheduled an ultrasound to look at it and make sure it was benign. We had to wait about an hour for the ultrasound. The first time we had to wait all night! When I got to the ultrasound the technician kept teasing us. He say things like "oh look! There's your baby! I mean cyst....." I just hope he isn't jinxing anything.....We waited another hour for those results and they were good. So I was just given a prescription for percocet and sent home with instructions to have a follow up ultrasound in 6 weeks. They gave me another dose of painkillers and sent us home.

Dylan was such a trooper. He didn't once complain for having to wait so long and kept me entertained. He helped me stay awake while I was on the pain killers because I wanted to be attentive and understand what the doctors were saying to me. He always takes such good care of me.

We had really nice doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff. Everyone was quite cheery and talked with us when they were wheeling me around to different parts of the hospital. There was a lot of laughing. I am so grateful that there were such nice people we got to work with.

So now I am at home. I've stayed in bed because the pain killers make me extremely drowsy and I have a killer headache. But on the plus side this is something that should go away on it's own. It shouldn't keep me too much from school or work. Dylan should be home from work soon too and he always takes such good care of me!
